The National Investigation Agency (NIA), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has released a major recruitment notification inviting applications for Senior Public Prosecutor (Sr. PP) and Public Prosecutor (PP) posts on deputation (including Short Term Contract – ISTC) basis.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Senior Public Prosecutor (Sr. PP)
- Analogous post holders OR
- 5 years’ regular service in Pay Band-3 + GP ₹5,400 (or equivalent)
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized University
- Experience: Minimum 8 years in prosecution of criminal cases
- Age Limit: Not exceeding 56 years as on closing date
- Deputation Period: Maximum 3 years (including previous deputation in ex-cadre posts)
2. Public Prosecutor (PP)
- Analogous post holders OR
- 2 years’ regular service in Pay Band-3 + GP ₹4,800 (or equivalent)
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized University
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in prosecution of criminal cases
- Age Limit: Not exceeding 56 years as on closing date
- Deputation Period: Maximum 3 years
Note: Departmental candidates in the direct line of promotion are not eligible for deputation.
Key Responsibilities (Common to both posts)
- Scrutinize charge sheets and draft sanction orders
- Conduct prosecution in important cases and submit court diaries
- Prepare conviction/acquittal reports and recommend appeals/revisions
- Guide investigating officers on legal issues during probe
- Brief government/special counsels for High Court & Supreme Court matters
- Manage case property, warrants, and Malkhana inspections
- Coordinate with SP/DLA and attend case review meetings
Sr. PP will additionally supervise Public Prosecutors and provide guidance to the team.
