
This blast had left 157 people dead, 80 more missing and more than 5,000 injured. Beirut was already under crises due to Covid-19 and now the blast. To which United Nations has came out as an auxiliary for the same. UN decided to release $9 million to help Beirut hospitals. This amount will be used by the Beirut government for intensive care units, trauma kits, ventilators, medical supplies and medicines. The UN in their official statement said that “they are releasing $9 million to address immediate needs following the explosion”. U.N. deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said on Thursday the money from the Lebanese Humanitarian Fund will be following by additional funds from the U.N.”s Central Emergency Response Fund.
He said the U.N. is carrying out assessments of the damage and needs resulting from the massive explosion and hopes to hold a meeting on Monday to inform the 193 U.N. member states of the results and launch an appeal to help Lebanon. Apart from that, WHO, will aid to cover 1000 trauma interventions and 1000 surgical interventions for people suffering from burns and wounds caused by glass and other debris resulting from the blast.
