Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said that Swami Vivekananda advocated secularism long before Constitution of India was drafted and his teachings put India back in the spotlight at a time when it was known merely as a colony of western nations.
Further the CJI added that Vivekananda wanted religion to rise above superstition and rigidity and believed that the true essence of religion was tolerance and common good.
In 1893, he participated in world “Parliament of Religions” at Chicago where through his speech regarding ancient Indian philosophy of Vedanta, he gave a respectable recognition to India. His teachings have great relevance for all times to come.
Moreover, CJI said that it is well established that voice and power of youth can change the world and educational institutions have huge responsibility to make them aware of rights and responsibilities.
