In the wake of diminishing Covid Cases, Supreme Court has decided that it will commence physical hearing with hybrid option from September 1, 2021.
As per the new SoP issued by the Secretary General of the Court, Supreme Court will resume physical hearing of cases in a limited manner and will continue it along with virtual hearing thrice a week – Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
However, the top court will continue with virtual hearings on Monday and Friday, which are miscellaneous days and number of matters listed before the benches are high.
The Supreme Court has been hearing matters virtually since March 2020 after the coronavirus pandemic hit India.
In a matter listed for physical hearing (with hybrid option), one AOR [or his nominee], one Arguing Counsel and one Junior Counsel per party will be allowed entry; one registered Clerk per party, as may be chosen by the AOR, shall be allowed entry to carry paperbooks/journals etc. of the Counsels upto the Court-rooms.
In July this year, the SCBA had written a letter to the CJI urging that physical hearing in the apex court be resumed saying the COVID-19 situation in the national capital has become almost normal”.
