The Supreme Court has urged child welfare committees to conclude outstanding probes into the lives of many children who lose their parents at a young age within three weeks, expressing concern about the covid pandemic lives of many children who lose their parents at a young age.
“During the pandemic, more than a million children have lost one or both parents. It’s heartbreaking to think that so many children’s lives are in jeopardy.” The bench remarked.
While reviewing the petition suo moto to deal with the plight of children impacted by Covid, a Division Bench comprised of Justice Nageswara Rao and Justice Aniruddha Bose made the observation.
The court ordered the Union and states to identify children who have become orphaned after March 2020, whether due to pandemic or otherwise, through the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights, on May 28. The CWC can identify children who do not require care and protection, as well as financial support from the states after the investigation, is completed, the Bench clarified.
