On Friday, the Supreme Court of India while hearing a plea seeking constitution of Monitoring Committee to look into the matter of providing shelter and facilities to the evicted residents of Khori Gaon gave direction to the State of Haryana and Faridabad Municipal Corporation to file its response on the plea.
The petitioners have argued that the residents are living in extreme poverty and without shelter and thus in the plea it is requested before the Apex Court to make provisions and a monitoring committee for the rehabilitation of the evicted. They have requested for a shelter that provides for basic requirements for a person to exist while protecting their health and privacy as the temporary shelters provided are woefully inadequate.
Due to the lack of proper provisions and a committee to monitor the situation, the residents are facing a lot of hardships and it is difficult for them to find houses and to be able to pay rent for the same.
In the plea it is sought by the petitioners for the Apex Court to give directions for constitution of Monitoring Committee to be headed by a retired High Court judge.
