In a case dealing with the matter of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, the local court in Mathura dismissed the plea of the State Police seeking further probe against the journalist Siddhique Kappan. The journalist had been booked for several matters of UAPA.
The bench headed by Additional Sessions Judge Anil Kumar Pandey dismissed the application for further investigation.
The advocate on behalf of the accused contended that it would lead to the violation of fundamental rights of the accused. The matter has already been heard and the investigation is complete. It was further provided that the journalist was ready to undergo the lie detector test and any other such test that proves his innocence.
It was provided that the accused has been denied medical assistance to which the court has sought a report from the jail authorities. An application of bail was filed by the accused and the court has sought a reply of the police on the matter.
An application was filed on July 21 seeking the copy of chargesheet for filing of bail but the same has yet not been considered. Thus, the matter is set to be heard on 23rd August, 2021.
