A Bench headed by Justices DY Chandrachud and MR Shah asked the union Government to come up with concrete response in matters of litigation relating to revenue.
On 10th February, while considering a Special leave Petition filed by Revenue department, the Court observed that appeals in revenue matters including indirect Tax are filed with gross delay.
With such, the Court directed the Central to come up with step in such matters.
On 15h February the solicitor general submitted a note before the Court where even the bench discussed the need to incorporate technological innovations in the process of monitoring litigation in Revenue matters.
The proceedings thus took delay and the centre repeatedly sought time for submitting proposal.
The Court added, to treat this as a last and final opportunity to the Union Government to sort such issues or else next step would be issuing of contempt notice and the Court will be bound to take it’s own course.
The appeal is to be considered on 20th August 2021.
