The Jharkhand High Court took suo motu notice of the death of a Dhanbad district judge who’d been killed in a road accident while out for a morning walk on Wednesday.
Upon on ground of a letter from the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Dhanbad, and Surveillance footage, the division bench headed By Chief justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad ruled.
Representatives of the Bar too have shown up and submitted before us that the death of a judicial officer cannot be viewed as a straightforward case of accident or murder, but that an inquiry by the investigating agency is needed on the basis there might be a coverup for the judicial officer’s death, as the judicial officer was involved in hearing cases on some sensitive matters.
The incident is nothing more than a direct assault on the judicial system, possibly to send out a message all across the nation, according to the Bar. As a result, the inquiry should be passed over to the Central Agency, i.e., the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The High Court ordered the Director-General of Police, Jharkhand, to inform the Bench on the graph rate of crime in the state of Jharkhand after January 2020 while the case was postponed to August 3, 2021.
