On Monday, the Delhi High Court dismissed an appeal filed on the matter that personal information such as residential address or Father’s name for the selection of multi-tasking employee for Rashtrapati Bhavan must be disclosed under Right to Information Act, 2005.
The petitioner argues that the selected candidates for the job have to disclose their father’s name and residential address while considering the same is a matter that comes under the Right to Information Act.
The Delhi High Court dismissed the appeal and held that the personal information which has no relation with the public interest and activity and the disclosure of which information caused unwarranted encroachment cannot be disclosed under the Right to Information Act.
The bench comprising of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh observed that Section 8 of Right to Information Act, 2005 provides for exemption from disclosure of such information and further held that the information which was being sought by the Petitioner in the said appeal has no relation with the Public Interest. Hence, it is not necessary for it to be disclosed.
