On Friday The Delhi High Court stated that a safe house has to be provided all type of couples – inter-faith, inter-caste or those belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community who are facing opposition from families.
Based on one of the judgement given by the Supreme Court where safe house was opened for inter-caste couples,in Delhi also safe house was opened.
The Delhi HC directed to the police to make sure safe transportation and protection is provided to petitioner till they stay in safe house.
The court stated that is only the stop gap but at later point of time they have to leave the house so the differences must be sorted out among families.
The petitioner contended that his client was assaulted by their families even though they were adult.
The couple also approached the DCP but yet there was no facility of safe house given to them as they were running here and there in order to save their lives but ultimately they found shelter in NGO.
It was argued that not providing them with a safe house was violation of their fundamental right guaranteed under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.
Next, matter will be heard on August 2.
