The Supreme Court announced on Friday that it intends to establish a programme as soon as possible, allowing the jail to check orders directly from the courts via an online platform.
“This court has given orders discharging the inmates, but they’re not freed, alleging that they’ve not got the genuine copy of the order,” a special bench comprising Chief Justice N.V. Ramana, Justice L. Nageswara Rao, and Justice A.S. Bopanna remarked.
The Supreme Court had taken suo motu notice of the delay in prisoners getting released upon being granted bail because the jail officials had not received an original copy of the judicial order.
“We are considering a mechanism called FASTER: Fast and Secure Transmission of Electronic Record,” the Chief Justice added. Its purpose is to send all directives to the appropriate jail officials without having to wait.”
“It is the Information and Technology Age,” the Chief Justice added. We’ll strive to adopt the technique at the latest when all the directives are directly checked by prison.”
The Supreme Court’s Secretary-General has been asked to develop the strategy, make a report, and examine whether the jails are connected to the internet in order to make sure that the orders are carried out. The Court also requested comments from all state governments regarding the availability of Internet access in jails, as communication would be difficult.
