A division of the bench of Justice had issued a notice relating to the environmental issue of unrestricted and unregulated use of plastics for packaging.
ISSUES RAISED:-
These unrestricted plastics are used on a large scale for purpose of packaging which causes serious health consequences.
In these plastics, there is a presence of heavy metals which cause severe health issues and damage to the endocrine and neurological system.
There should be a need for restricted use of plastic in the packaging of liquor and soft drinks.
The appellant argued that National Green Tribunal failed to exercise its jurisdiction over compelling evidence placed on the record.
This matter is pending before the tribunal for seven years and the executive authorities said that using plastic for packaging will cause adverse effects on the health of the consumers.
