On the basis of a complaint from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), the Delhi Police’s cyber department has filed a FIR against Twitter for allegedly allowing access to child pornography on the platform, officials said on Tuesday.
In response to a complaint from the NCPCR about the availability of child sexual abuse and child pornographic material on Twitter in the form of various accounts and links, the Cyber Crime Unit has filed a Case FIR under relevant sections of the IPC, IT Act, and POCSO Act, and an investigation has begun.
The case was filed against Twitter Inc. and Twitter Communication India Private Ltd, according to Delhi Police spokesperson Chinmoy Biswal.
The move comes days after the NCPCR, the country’s top child rights organisation, urged Anyesh Roy, the deputy commissioner of police (cyber cell), to explain why no action had been taken against Twitter in response to the NCPCR’s May 29 letter to the Delhi Police.
According to the police, the complaint was filed against Twitter Inc. and Twitter Communication India Private Ltd.
