The West Bengal Bar Council has written a forceful letter to Chief Justice of India (CJI) N.V. Ramana, requesting that Temporary Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court Rajesh Bindal be removed immediately.
“Justice Bindal is a biased, unjust, and prejudiced Judge, whose continued presence at the High Court conflicts with the fair and honest administration of justice,” stated West Bengal Bar Council Chairperson Ashok Kumar Deb in a statement made accessible to the press yesterday.
Mr Deb, a Member of Legislative Assembly from governing All India Trinamool Congress, adding, “We beg your Lordship to expel Justice Bindal from the West Bengal High Court, in order to protect the grandeur and dignity of the Court”.
He mentioned a lot of instances heard by the West Bengal High Court under Justice Bindal’s term, such as the Narada Sting case, Mamata Banerjee’s election appeal, and a case involving drug wastage in the state.
While pointing to the bail given by a Special CBI Court to 4 AITC leaders in the Narada case, which has been stayed by the West Bengal High Court, the West Bengal Bar Council Chairman said that Justice Bindal was significantly biassed and prejudiced in support of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The letter also cited Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s election petition, which was submitted to Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharya’s single-judge bench, but was assigned to Justice Kausik Chanda by Justice Bindal.
