A notice has been sent to Chief Secretary, Telangana and Director General of Police in relation to the custodial death of a Dalit woman. The notice was sent by the National Commission for Schedule Caste.

The Mariyamma woman was taken into custody along with her two male relatives for alleged theft of Rs. 2,00,000/- from her employer.

As per the report of the police, she suddenly fell down on the ground and went unconscious. After that she was admitted to the local hospital and shifted to a government hospital where she died.

However, the commission’s report stated that the woman was beaten up in the locker in the presence of her daughter and she died in the Lockup in Addagudur police station.

The commission has demanded a ‘action-taken’ report within a week and also said that if the report is not received within the said time period than a summon of personal appearance in Delhi will be served.
