Allahabad HC Issues Notice on Plea Against Barabanki Mosque Demolition

In the case of the demolition of the Gareeb Nawaz Al Maroof Mosque in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad high court has issued a notice.

On May 17, the authorities demolished the mosque, despite what the petitioners claim was an order from the Allahabad high court ordering that demolitions be slowed during the second wave of the pandemic.

The Mosque was registered with the Sunni Waqf Board of Uttar Pradesh. It has been around for at least six decades, illustrating how ancient it is. Its electricity costs have been paid for at least 60 years. The municipal government, on the other hand, issued a notice in March declaring the mosque “unofficial.”

The court further stated that the petition involves charges of malafide exercise of power and the manner in which authorities exercised their power.

In the matter, the parties were given three weeks to file counter affidavits.
