A Wayanad court has ordered Kerala police to file a FIR on bribery and other charges against Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party president K. Surendran and Janadhipathya Rashtriya Sabha leader C.K. Janu.
Surendran allegedly paid Janu Rs 10 lakh to withdraw her nomination on a JRS ticket for the Kerala assembly election in April. Navas reportedly approached the Kerala police chief, requesting that a FIR be registered, but later filed a court petition, claiming that no action had been taken.
Janu rejoined the National Democratic Alliance and went from a Wayanad constituency, finishing third behind the UDF and LDF candidates. JRS state treasurer Praseeda Azhikode made the bribery allegations.
Sundara, who filed his nomination as the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate on June 5, claimed that the BJP threatened him and then offered him Rs 2.5 lakh as a bribe to withdraw from the race.
Sundara also claimed that Sunil Naik, a Yuva Morcha leader and Surendran’s close aide, had given him the money and a smartphone.
