A Delhi court granted bail to businessman Navneet Kalra on Saturday in a case involving the seizure of oxygen concentrators from one of the city’s upscale restaurants.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Arun Kumar Garg has ordered the accused not to contact the customers to whom he sold the concentrators, not to tamper with evidence or influence witnesses, and to cooperate with the police investigation as needed.
The businessman was apprehended in Gurugram on May 16 and formally arrested the next day on suspicion of black-marketing the critical medical device. He’d been on the run since the police raided his restaurants and seized the medical devices. Later, a court ordered him to be held in judicial custody until June 3.
During the proceedings on Saturday, the prosecutor showed the court Kalra’s oxygen concentrator brochures and stated that they were not premium or from Germany, as the accused claimed.
Kalra’s lawyers, senior advocate Vikas Pahwa and advocate Vineet Malhotra, argued that their client is being made a scapegoat and that he had no criminal intent to defraud people because he sold the oxygen concentrators to help family and friends.
