Justices PV Asha and B Sudheendra Kumar of the Kerala high court will retire on Friday.
Incidentally, both of them were classmates at Government Law College, Ernakulam. A reference was organized for their farewell, within limited audience considering the COVID-19 restrictions.

While justice Asha has served as a high court judge for seven years, justice Sudheendra Kumar had a tenure of over six years.

Justice PV Asha was elevated from the bar and was sworn in as a judge of the High Court on May 21, 2014. She attained nation wide acclaim with her landmark verdict which held that right to internet was a part of right to privacy and right to education.

Whereas, being sworn in as a high court judge on April 10, 2015, noteworthy judgments of justice Sudheendra Kumar were ordering CBI probe in Periya twin murder case, ordering effective probe in PSC exam fraud case, and ordering ragging-accused students to do anti-ragging campaign to quash FIR, and holding that an eyewitness’ political leaning is not a bar to accepting testimony in political murder case if otherwise acceptable.

Justice Asha in her farewell, mentioned that only 3 women judges have been appointed to the Kerala High Court in its history of 64 years, and expressed the hope to see more women representation.
