Delhi High Court seeks a reply from the Centre on Remdesivir

A plea was filed in the Delhi High Court seeking the sale of Remdesivir by all manufacturers in the domestic market.

The plea claimed that only a few pharma companies are allowed to sell the medicine in the domestic market

The petition stated that there are 25 manufacturers of the medicine, but only

6-8 of them are allowed to sell it in the domestic market, whereas the others are producing it only for export purposes.

The petition sought for directions to allow all the manufacturers to contribute to the domestic market as the scarcity and non-availability of the medicine is giving rise to a black-market.

A Bench of the High Court consisting of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh sought a reply to this plea.

The Bench issued a notice to the Centre’s Health Ministry, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, the Director General of Foreign Trade and various firms such as Cipla, Zydus and Cadila.
