Verdict in Tarun Tejpal Case Might Be Passed Today by Goa Court

In the trial of former Tehelka editor in chief, Tarun Tejpal, the district and session court at Mapusa in North Goa is expected to pronounce its judgment. He was undertail for the offence of rape committed in 2013.

Tejpal was accused by a woman that he sexually assaulted her in a lift of a five star hotel during an event in Goa in November,2013. However, he, after being arrested on November 30,2013, was released on the bail and denied all the allegations made against him.

He faced the trial of committing various offences, i.e. under section 341( wrongful restraint) , 342( wrongful confinement) , 354 ( assault or use of criminal force in order to outrage modesty) , 354B ( assault or use of criminal force to woman in order to outrage modesty by disrobing) and 376 (rape).

The district and session judge Shama Joshi will pronounce its verdict of guilt or not today. And if he is found guilty, then he will also hear arguments regarding the quantum of the sentence.
