First information report (FIR) was registered against former home minister of Maharashtra and unknown people by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for alleged “attempt to obtain undue advantage for improper and dishonest performance of the public duty”.
Searches were being conducted at various places connected with Deshmukh and his associates for the corruption and conspiracy. However, he is being booked under section-7 of the amended Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018 and under section-120B of the Indian Penal Code.
After being directed by the Bombay High Court, the CBI has initiated the preliminary enquiry against Deshmukh as allegations of corruption was made by the former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh.
The court, however, directed CBI to complete the enquiry within 15 days and also gave a free hand to CBI director for taking any further action.
