With the Kumbh Mela 2021 underway, the Uttarakhand High Court has ordered the state government to raise the number of regular tests to a minimum of 50,000 per day.
After reading the reports provided by the Chief Secretary (Uttarakhand) and a representative for the complainant, a bench of Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Alok Verma stated, “There is a shortage of sanitization dispensers, manual dispensers, lack of drinking facilities”, in a batch of PILs filed against the state and district authorities regarding flaws in the Maha Kumbh arrangements.
Following the hearing, the Court expressed concern about the growing number of Covid-19 cases, stating that the State Government should work overtime to assure that Covid-19 does not expand its wings from Haridwar and Rishikesh.
The Court expressed deep concern about the pitiful condition of hospitals across the Kumbh Mela zone. Many of the hospitals in Rishikesh was found to be lacking in basic facilities such as ultrasound, clean washrooms, and healthy drinking water.
