The man who wrote scandalous letters against the judges, has promised that he won’t repeat this again. On 22nd, the Karnataka High Court accepted the unconditional apology made by the accused. He was 72 year old person.
The court has taken suo-moto action against him for his threatening letters against judges. The court filed a criminal contempt petition.The division bench consisted of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Suraj Govindaraj.
The bench observed that the apology should be accompanied with a promise that the offence should not be repeated. But the court said that the undertaking is not compulsory, it is discretionary. The bench added that the apology can be bonafide or not, it totally depends on the conduct or behavior of the accused.
The alleged contemnor is SVS Rao, who had previously also has committed such offences. He has taken legal advice from many advocates as per court’s order last time.
The Court deferred acceptance of his a[apology and held that “no person can be permitted to intimidate the Judges with baseless and scandalous imputations.
