Karnataka High Court refuses to stay the implementation of FASTag procedure

While hearing the application filed by the petitioner challenging the National Highway authority’s new initiative. The Karnataka High Court refused to amend the Central Motor Vehicle Rules which made the system of FASTag as a compulsory step to be taken for all types of vehicles.

While getting a 3rd party insurance also, the valid FASTag is mandatory. The High court refused to stay the notification. The bench consisted of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice S Vishwajith Shetty. The bench said that someday the people and the country should modernize. The bench quoted the following words “We must modernize”.

The current situation of COVID-19 also welcomes such initiative. The bench observed that the currency notes may transfer from many people, if it becomes a digital form, then it is hygienic also.

The court held that the case will be taken on 9th April and the date for final hearings will be fixed.
