Urvashi Vashist v. Residents Welfare Association
In an ongoing issue of feeding street dogs in the residential colony of Delhi, the Delhi High Court gave directions. This hearing was done in video conferencing. The bench consisted of Justice Prathiba Singh. The petitions were filed by 3 animal lovers. The petitions were filed against the Residents welfare Association. This association has created hindrances to the petitioners in feeding the street dogs in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.
Enormous complaints have been filed against the petitioners in feeding the street dogs.The High Court held that a spot has to be identified for the purpose of feeding and taking care of street dogs. There should be no hindrance if a spot has been selected for this purpose. The court referred to the case of Citizen for the welfare of animals v. state and observed that the association had to find suitable spots in the colonies to take care of the street dogs. Even after this order in 2009, there was no action taken for identifying suitable spots. The Court also gave directions to the Delhi police to ensure that there is no harm caused to the volunteers who feed the street dogs.
