Former Supreme Court judge P.B. Sawant passed away at his residence at Pune on Monday. He was 90 years old. He was dedicated to social causes also.
He was in news recently because he is one of the Chief organizer of the original and controversial Elgaar Parishad, along with his close friend who is also a former judge of Bombay High Court, B.G. Kolse Patil, held in December 2017.
Justice Sawant also served as the chairman of the Press Council of India.Justice Sawant started practicing at Bombay High Court in 1973 and later on appointed as judge in the Supreme Court in 1989.
His friend justice Kosil-Patil _The Hindu_ that justice Sawant was a towering personality whose intense dedication to social justice was legendary.
