Comedian Munawar Faruqui was released from Indore prison on Thursday night following ad-interim bail by the Supreme court a day earlier. He was arrested for hurting religious sentiments on January 2 by his comic performance.
The Indore jail authorities informed that they are yet to receive any orders from the SC regarding Munawar’s release. They added that Faruqui’s bail was in connection with the case lodged against him in the Madhya Pradesh case and that he he was yet to get relief in the case lodged against him in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj.
He was released later in the day following a call from a judge of the SC.
Upon his release, Faruqui said he has complete trust in the judiciary, it’s working and laws and hope he will get justice. He said he does not want to say anything more for the time being.
