In the National Herald Case, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court come from different sources the criminal proceedings against Congress leader Motilal Vohra. After the late Congress leader’s counsel placed his death certificate on record, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sachin Gupta passed the order and urged the court to qua him for abatement of proceedings. On December21, just a day after celebrating his 93rd birthday, Vora passed away in the national capital. He had recovered in October from Covid-19 and was admitted on December 19 to Delhi’s Escorts Hospital after he complained of breathlessness.
The case relates to the assignment to Associated Journals Ltd (AJL)-the owner of National Herald to Young Indian for a consideration of Rs. 50 lakh of a Rs. 90 crore loan advanced by the Congress party. In a private criminal complaint, BJP leader Subramanium Swamy has accused Congressional leaders Rahul Gandhi, his mother and interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey, Sam Pitroda, and others of bribery, criminal conspiracy, confidence violation, and property misappropriation. However, all the seven accused persons in the case including the Gandhi, Fernandes, Dubey and others had denied the said allegations levelled against them.
