An RTI activist has filed a writ petition in Bombay High Court seeking the information on Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin from Director Controller General of India (DCGI) regarding the safety and efficiency of the vaccine.
The petitioner contented that, “this vaccine has not completed the phase III trials and hence it cannot be safe.”The plea stated that although the company has stated Covaxin to be safe and provide a “robust immune response”, the data regarding the same has not been made public.
On the other side, Bharat biotech has assured all the volunteers taking the vaccine shot will be compensated and the volunteers need to fill a form before taking the shot stating that the beneficiary has given his/her consent to the vaccine and is aware of the vaccine and its side-effects (if any).
