The Centre on Monday, moved the Supreme Court seeking an injunction against the proposed tractor, trolley march or any other kind of protest which seeks to disrupt the august gathering and Republic Day celebrations on 26th January.
The Centre filed the application filed through the Delhi Police.
It stated that it has come to the knowledge of security agencies that small groups and organisations of farmers are planning on conducting these protests on Republic Day.
The application stated that this protest aims at disturbing the Republic Day celebrations, this would cause a massive law and order situation and embarrass the entire nation.
It further stated that right to protest is always subject public interest and public order. Right to protest does not include “maligning the nation globally”.
The application also stated that Republic Day has a constitutional and historical significance. The ceremony is not a single day event, the rehearsals start from 23rd of January. Therefore any obstruction to this is a violation of law, order and public health.
