In a plea filed by Advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha seeking a CBI/NIA investigation into the mysterious death of West Bengal BJP MLA Debendra Nath Ray, who was found hanging from a tree on July 13, 2020, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing on Tuesday. He called it a democratic homicide.
A bench of three judges, led by Justices Ashok Bhushan, R. Subhash Reddy, and M.R. Shah has ordered the complainant to file a rejoinder.
The government of West Bengal has filed an affidavit in the matter alleging that no government official was involved in the death of BJP MLA Debendra Nath Ray.
According to the affidavit, BJP MLA Debendra Nath Ray, who was found hanging outside a tea shop in the North Bengal District, received a suicide note. The post-mortem confirmed that this was a suicide case.
In its affidavit, the West Bengal government has also denied the intervention of any state machinery against individuals of different ideologies.
In addition, the State Government also refuted the claims that millions who had joined the particular political party were afraid of the incident, of contesting the election or contesting the election independently, finding it wrongly claimed in the petition.
