On Monday, the Supreme Court refused to entertain a petition lodged by Republic TV and its editor-in-chief, Arnab Goswami, requesting immunity from arbitrary action by the Maharashtra Police for all employees of the news channel.
The plea alleging the harassment of republic TV employees by Maharashtra police was withdrawn by the petitioner after the bench headed by justice DY chandrachud stated that the petition was ambitious in nature.
Senior Advocate Milind Sathe, Goswami’s lawyer, then agreed to withdraw the petition after the Court granted Goswami and Republic TV the freedom to switch suitable platforms for relief.
