Comedian Bharti Singh arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau

Today NCB conducted a search at the residence of Harsh and Bharti Singh and arrested them following the seizure of Cannabis from their house in Andheri.

NCB searched their house and office in the early morning as part of an ongoing probe into alleged drug use in the entertainment industry. During interrogation, both of them have accepted the consumption of Cannabis.

Sameer Wankhede (NCB’s zonal director) and his team carried this search operation at Bharti’s residence as well as at her office and recovered 86.5 gms of cannabis during the search. Comedian Bharti has been arrested under the NDPS act.

According to the provision, up to 1,000 grams of ganja is considered a small quantity, which attracts a jail term up to six months and/or a fine of Rs 10,000. Possession of commercial quantity — 20 kg or more — can attract up to 20 years in jail. For the quantity in between, the punishment can be as much as 10 years in jail.

NCB chief has stated that “Singh’s name had cropped up during the interrogation of a drug peddler”.
