
Last month Mumbai Police, claimed and unearthed a TRP scam, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, therefore decided to set up a four-member committee to study the different aspects of the Television Rating Points (TRP) system.
The committee will be headed by Prasar Bharati Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shashi S Vempati. The committee would revisit the Information and Broadcasting ministry’s existing guidelines and will recommend changes. Other members of the committee will consists of prominent personality from IIT Kanpur and IIM Banglore.
Panel led by MP Shashi Tharoor, the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT, had unanimously agreed that the current system of measuring audience estimates through Television Rating Points (TRPs) is flawed and the technology it depends on is outdated.
