
The Allahabad High Court has held that conversions of religion just for the sake of marriage will not be accepted. On September 23, a couple’s writ petition was dismissed and the Allahabad court relied upon this. In this instant case, the woman was Muslim by birth and she converted to Hinduism in June, which is exactly one month and 2 days before her marriage. The said conversion has been done for the purpose of marriage.
In this order, the Judge has also referred to2014 order which held that conversion for the purpose of marriage is unacceptable. The 2014 case was Smt. Noor Jahan Begum @ Anjali Mishra v. State of Uttar Pradesh. These marriages are against the rule of Sura II Ayat 221 of the Holy Quran.
