On 12th October, the Supreme Court issued notice on petitions challenging the three farm laws which is passed by the Parliament. The notice seeks response within 4 weeks from the Centre. The three farm laws were:
- Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020.
- Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020.
- Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020 which took effect from September 27th.
The petition challenging the three farms laws was filed by Rakesh Vaishnav, who represents the Chhattisgarh Kisan Congress. He requested to strike down the farm laws claiming that it surreptitiously repealed the local laws in Chhattisgarh and would dismantle the Agricultural Produce Market Committees system. The bench said, “We will issue notice as this issue is bound to arise somewhere or other.”
