SC Issues Notice in PIL Seeking Rescue of Indian Workers From Gulf Countries

A Supreme Court bench comprising Justices NV Ramana, Surya Kant and Aniruddha Bose has issued notice to the Centre while hearing plea seeking directions to the government for bringing back workers employed in Gulf countries.

The plea has seeked directions to frame guidelines and set up a grievance redressal cell in this regard.

The plea has been filed by Pathkuri Basanth Reddy, the President of Gulf Telangana Welfare and Cultural Association. It highlights that around 44 Indians are facing death sentences and 33,940 Indian workers have died in the past six years in the Gulf countries.

The plea seeks directions for the government to set up a mechanism to bring back Indian workers who have lost their passports in Gulf countries and implement policies framed for their welfare to rescue them from the adverse circumstances.
