18 police officers were punished by the Maharashtra government after an inquiry was conducted into their alleged involvement in the Palghar Lynching incident. An affidavit with the particulars of the action taken was filed in the Supreme Court.
The direction for filing the affidavit was given by a bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and R Subhash Reddy. Earlier the status quo of the case and the chargesheets filed so far were also asked to be submitted.
The case at hand dates back to the night of April 16, when two sadhus and a driver, who were on their way to Gujarat to attend a funeral, were assumed to be child kidnappers and lynched in Palghar district of Maharashtra.
Out of the 18 police officers complicit to the 3 deaths, one Assistant Police Inspector has been dismissed and an assistant police sub inspector along with a driver have been compulsorily retired. The pay cut for the remaining 15 police personnel has been reduced to the minimum.
