False Rape Complaint: Bombay High Court imposes ₹25,000 fine

Justices RD Dhanuka and VG Bisht, directed the lady to pay ₹25,000 to the Maharashtra Police Welfare Fund within four weeks, as she filed a petition saying she did not want to continue the matter.

On March 16, in the Palghar District, The FIR was registered against her boyfriend, stating that he had “drugged and raped her”. In her petition to discontinue the matter, the woman claimed to have a relationship with the man, but when her family found out, a false story was made by her that he had “raped her”.

The court could not accept this argument and stated “Since the petitioner does not want to pursue the complaint, we are inclined to quash the FIR but on the condition that the petitioner pays Rs 25,000 to the Maharashtra Police Welfare Fund within four weeks,”.
