A Single Bench of the Delhi High Court comprising Justice Suresh Kumar Kait reserved orders in ‘Pinjra Tod’ activist Devangana Kalita’s bail plea in a case registered against her for allegedly instigating the residents of Jaffrabad to participate in riots. The Court gave both the parties time till Monday to file their written submissions.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibbal, while appearing on behalf of Kalita, argued that the chargesheet has already been filed against Kalita and she is no longer required for investigation. Moreover, there are no grounds to believe that she can influence the witnesses or poses a flight risk.
ASG SV Raju opposed the bail plea and submitted that Kalita cannot claim parity with the bail order passed in other FIR against her as she was not accused of serious offences such as murder and attempt to murder in that FIR.
