
On 10th August, 2020, UGC questioned the decision of the two state governments, Delhi and Maharashtra, which stand to cancel the final year examination of university students, due to the COVID Pandemic. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that this decision of the two governments are against the rules and only the UGC has the power to make any such rules regarding the Degrees.
Mr Tushar Mehta to further file affidavits in response to the affidavits filed by the two state governments, for the next scheduled hearing on 14th August.
Meanwhile, Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava, on behalf of other petitioners, argued that the July 6 Directive is illegal and unconstitutional.
The argument was placed in the apex court for the pleas which challenged the directive of all universities and colleges to hold final year examinations by September 30, given on July 6.
