The High Court of Karnataka has directed the State on Friday to take strict actions against political figures who are not following the social distancing norms and are not wearing masks in public. HC said that it comes under violation of provisions of Disaster Management Act.
The issue was raised by advocates named Puttige R Ramesh and G R Mohan by filing of applications. It was alleged in an application that in a marriage ceremony of a former minister, all laid norms for COVID-19 were violated. In another application the function for erecting a statue of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda in which the social distancing was not followed was brought to light by an applicant.
Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice M Nagaprasanna stated that ”It is time for the state to act with firm hands to ensure that no person, howsoever influential he is, will be spared if he/she commits any violation of orders passed under DM Act.”
Additional Advocate General Dhyan Chinnappa informed during the hearing that grievance redressal mechanism has been set up in all districts for people to file complaints against these kind of violations. He also said that all the Deputy Commissioners have been informed to ensure the proper functioning of DM Act.
The Court posted this matter for hearing on 27th July.
