The International Pentecost Holiness Church in Zuurbekom, west of Johannesburg was attacked on Saturday, 11th July where five people were killed. South African police stated that attackers also took people as hostages who were later freed.
Around 40 people were arrested and 40 firearms including rifles, shotguns and handguns were seized from them as was reported by eNCA television station. Police even posted pictures of the seized weapons on Twitter.
As suspected by the local media, power struggle between rival factions at the church can be a reason for the attack. Vishnu Naidoo, police spokesman, said that ” Everything was in complete disarray, so we have arrested all those that we reasonably believe are suspects, we are busy interviewing and interrogating them to establish exactly what the motive was. ”
