The government has again brought attention to Gujarat HC not handling the migrant worker’s issue promptly. Recently 33 were arrested for rioting outside IIM-Ahmedabad, and we’re identified as ‘victims’ but were sent to jail.
The 33 people were arrested for rioting, unlawful assembly, obstructing the police officers and causing damage to public property. They also seemed to have defied lockdown rules. After being in jail for a month, the prisoners applied for bail.
It was observed that these were the labourers who were protesting because they lost their jobs, did not have food or money and wanted to return to their native places. They were later identified as ‘victims’ rather than ‘criminals’. The HC asked for their immediate release from the prison.
