Due to the outbreak of covid-19 the panel decides to release the 50% of prisoners from the jail across the state on parole or temporary bail basis.
The committee comprising of Bombay High court Justice A A Sayed , Additional Chief Secretary of state Home Department Sanjay Chahande and Maharashtra Director General Prisons S N Pandey was set up for the decongestion of prison due to the coronavirus outbreak, after the supreme court In March.
It also calls for the exception , that the prisoners booked or charged for any serious accusation under the Indian Penal code (IPC) and stringent law provisions like MCOCA , UAPA and PMLA will not be released on any temporary bail or parole.
