Experts claim that making Aarogya Setu App legal can lead to challenges

Both public and private sectors workers wrote to the PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and IT Minister Ravi Shankar regarding the mandatory use of Aarogya Setu App. Experts claim that people could misuse the data and it could have legal complications. Pavan Duggal, one of the cyber law experts, claims that the terms and conditions clearly state that the government will not be responsible for any data leaked.

Cybersecurity parameters and privacy of data are the main concerns arising out of the same. It isn’t clear how the terms of the app comply with the IT Act 2000. Although the app was voluntary, it was made mandatory for police personnel. The letter addressed to the PM also claims that this could violate various laws in the country like Puttuswamy judgement. As on 30th April, about 8 crore people had download the app.
